The Easylife is the entry point into AMZcycle's commuter lineup, and it's worth being clear about what that means. This is not a performance bike. It's a 350W rear hub motor on an AL6061 step-through frame with Shimano 9-speed, Schwalbe Marathon tires, and a 720Wh Samsung battery. It's designed for someone who wants to get to work without arriving sweaty, haul groceries without thinking too hard about gear ratios, and have a bike that starts every time and does the job reliably without much fuss.

What makes it interesting at $2,199 is the parts that don't match the price: a carbon fiber handlebar, a KS 860i dropper post, Schwalbe Green Marathon tires (not generic rubber), and a 720Wh Samsung pack that's large enough to give most commuters multiple days between charges. Those details reflect a build philosophy that prioritized the things that affect daily riding experience over the things that show up in spec comparisons.

Motor

350W rear hub motor, 48V, 45 N·m of torque, 670W peak. Hub drive. For urban commuting, this is a completely sensible choice — simpler than a mid-drive, lower maintenance, and the torque figure is appropriate for the use case. You're not climbing 15% grades with 80 lbs of cargo; you're navigating urban terrain, dealing with intersections, and occasionally tackling a moderate incline. 45 N·m gets that done comfortably. The intelligent PAS system scales assist with your cadence and effort, so it feels proportional rather than abrupt. Class 1 — pedal assist only, 20 mph cap.

Controlled by a SC101A controller. The 1.3" LED display is compact and functional — speed, battery level, assist level. Not a touchscreen with turn-by-turn navigation, just the information you need without the complexity.

Battery

Samsung 21700 cells, 48V 14.7Ah, 705.6Wh. UL2271 certified, IPX5 rated. For a daily 10-mile commute, 720Wh means you're looking at roughly a week between charges at moderate assist — that's the Easylife's real selling point for urban commuters. You stop thinking about charging as a daily logistics problem. Realistic range in commuting conditions is 62–75 miles. Removable for off-bike charging. 6–8 hours to full charge.

The Cockpit: Carbon Handlebar

The handlebar is full carbon fiber. On a $2,199 aluminum commuter bike, this is an unusual choice — carbon bars on this category of bike typically start appearing around $3,000+. The practical benefit is vibration damping over longer rides. On a 10-mile commute on rough urban pavement, the difference is subtle. Over 45 minutes of riding it adds up. The ergonomics are designed for an upright commuter position with appropriate sweep angle. Ergonomic silicone grips complete the hand interface.

Drivetrain: Shimano 9-Speed

Shimano SL-U4000 shifter and RD-U4000 rear derailleur. 9-speed, 11–41T Shimano LG300 cassette (long-cage, designed for e-bike applications), Shimano CN-LG500 chain (also e-bike rated). The cassette range gives you enough low gears for urban grades with assist and enough high gears to stay efficient at 18 mph. Shimano 9-speed is one of the most serviced drivetrain configurations in existence — parts and service are available everywhere, cable tension adjustments are simple, and the system is predictable. The 42T chainring up front balances pedaling cadence with motor efficiency.

Brakes

TEKTRO HD-M275, 2-piston hydraulic, Post Mount, with RT160-52 6-bolt rotors at 160mm front and rear. TEKTRO hydraulic 2-piston is solid mid-tier brake hardware for commuter use — consistent modulation, low maintenance, and the post mount standard means rotor and caliper replacements are straightforward. For urban riding without extreme descending demands, 2-piston is the right spec.

The Dropper Post

KS 860i, 30.9mm, 125mm travel, air spring, KS Westy 2.0 remote. The same dropper you'd find on performance gravel bikes. On a commuter bike, a dropper serves a different purpose than on a trail bike — it's about stop-and-go ergonomics, making it easy to put a foot down at intersections without dismounting, and adjusting saddle height across different riding conditions. Getting a proper KS unit here rather than a basic seatpost is the kind of thoughtful spec that improves daily riding experience meaningfully.

Tires

Schwalbe Green Marathon, 27.5×2.15". The Green Marathon is one of the most specified commuter tires in the industry for a reason. GreenGuard puncture protection, TwinSkin dual-layer sidewall, reflective sidewall band for low-light visibility, and low rolling resistance. For a daily commuter, getting a flat is genuinely disruptive in a way that doesn't apply to weekend riding. The Green Marathon's puncture resistance is not marketing — it's a real engineering priority that shows up in actual flat frequency. The reflective band is also meaningful for year-round commuting in shorter-daylight seasons.

What's Included

Front and rear racks included in the box, front fender included. These are the accessories that matter for a commuter bike — front rack for a bag or basket, rear rack for panniers or cargo, fender for wet-weather riding. Having them from the start rather than as bolt-ons you source separately is the right way to ship a commuter bike.

The Honest Picture

The Easylife is 57.3 lbs — heavier than the Aerolife, which makes sense given the aluminum frame and hub motor versus the Aerolife's carbon construction and mid-drive. For most commuters this weight difference is irrelevant; you ride it, you park it. If you need to carry it up multiple flights regularly, it's worth noting. The 350W motor also won't perform like the Aerolife's OKAWA AP70 on sustained climbs or at full load — again, not what this bike is designed for. For flat-to-moderate urban terrain and a straightforward daily commute, it delivers what it promises reliably.
