Lewis EB 20-21: The Heavyweight Champion of Braking
The Lewis EB 20-21 Axial Cylinder Brake is not a standard mountain bike brake. It is a dedicated heavy-duty system engineered specifically for E-Motos (Surron, Talaria, E-Ride Pro) and full-power E-MTBs. When your machine weighs over 100lbs, and you are hitting downhill speeds, standard bicycle brakes just don't cut it. The EB 20-21 delivers the hydraulic volume and thermal mass needed to safely stop heavy electric builds, lap after lap.
Built around a massive Oversized Axial Master Cylinder, this system pushes significantly more fluid than a traditional lever. This is required to feed the monster caliper, resulting in a firm lever feel and immediate piston engagement without the "mushy" feeling common in other brakes.
Why the EB 20-21 is the Standard for E-Moto:
-
Massive 20mm & 21mm Pistons: While standard DH brakes use ~17mm pistons, the EB 20-21 uses a gargantuan 2x20mm + 2x21mm asymmetrical layout. This increased surface area generates an immense clamping force to stop heavy electric bikes instantly.
-
Thick Rotor Compatibility (3.0mm): Heat is the enemy of E-Moto brakes. The EB 20-21 is designed to work with extra-thick 2.3mm to 3.0mm rotors (like the Lewis HD220). These thick rotors absorb far more heat without warping than standard 1.8mm bicycle rotors.
-
TITAN Ceramic Insulation: The pistons feature TITAN ceramic inserts that act as a thermal firewall. They prevent the intense heat from the pads from boiling your hydraulic fluid, ensuring your lever stays firm even at the bottom of a 20-minute descent.
- Braided Kevlar Hoses: Say goodbye to hose expansion. The kit comes pre-installed with T200 Kevlar-braided hoses, ensuring that your hydraulic pressure goes directly to the caliper, not into expanding the line.
Mechanic's Note (Pad & Rotor):
1. Pads: This caliper is huge. It uses Lewis EP-44 Sintered Metallic pads. These are larger than standard bicycle pads to handle the heat and torque of E-Moto riding.
2. Rotors: For best performance, we highly recommend pairing these with 2.3mm or 3.0mm thick rotors. Using standard thin rotors may result in excess lever throw.
Configuration:
These brakes are sold in the standard configuration:
- Left Lever: Rear Brake (165cm Hose)
- Right Lever: Front Brake (90cm Hose)
Note: The levers feature a "Flip-Flop" design. If you prefer "MTB Style" (Right Rear), you can swap them to reverse the configuration.
